Food’s Deadly Disasters

Food & Think posted a feature on “Four Deadly Disasters Caused By Food.” They include some of the most infamous food events throughout history, including the London Beer Flood in the 18th century, in which huge beer vats gave out, flooding Tottenham Court with about 3,500 barrels of beer and killing eight people.Other disasters included the Boston Molasses Disaster of 1919, featuring an exploding vat of molasses that created a 15-foot-high wave of molasses moving through streets at 35 mph, and the Basra Mass Poisoning of 1971 in Iraq, in which hundreds of people died from tainted grain.
