Consumers Willing To Pay For Safe Food

According to a new survey, 66 percent of consumers support the additional funding needed for the FDA to ramp up its food safety efforts. They’ll even pay more for their food if that’s what it takes. Seventy-four percent of shoppers would have no problems paying a 1 to 3 percent food price increase to pay for the safety measures in the Food Safety Modernization Act. But consumers also think food companies should chip in, with 70 percent supporting an annual fee of $1,000 for food companies to help cover the regulatory costs.
