Each Consumer Wastes 660 Pounds Of Food Per Year

According to Good, the FAO has released a report weighing the amount of food losses (due to failing infrastructure, harvesting technology or faulty packaging) and food waste (food thrown away by restaurants and households). As you can see, food losses account for the majority of the food that isn’t being utilized. In industrialized countries, the report indicates that 40 percent of food losses occur at the retail and consumer levels, with each consumer wasting about 660 pounds of food per year. This is much different that in developing countries, where 40 percent of food losses occur during harvesting or processing.
